Match your resume with your personality and professional goals!

Gone are the days, when one standard format for CVs and resumes was in practice and all professionals used to submit same job applications! With the ever changing job descriptions, newly introduced degrees and qualifications plus employer expectations, the applicants and their resumes are adapting to customized resumes and CVs.

Let's assume, looking at your LinkedIn profile, a recruiter or HR Manager contacts you. (Yes, sourcing from LinkedIn has gone up!) Your resume is shared, fortunately selected and you are invited for the interview. Now as you prepare for your interview, research the company; this HR Manager/Recruiter has made certain assumptions about you based upon your Linkedin profile and copy of resume....What happens during interview? You may fail in your interview if it does not reflect YOU, your personality, attitude and professional goals. Puzzled???

Let's begin with the "objective" part of your resume. This is the most favourite part of jargon lovers. The words, sentences and phrases are used at such liberty that it will give an impression of Shakespeare's disciple. An objective should be concise, free of word clutter and easy to understand. Objective speaks about your "real" professional goals! Industry specific goals and key result areas are the main factors here.

Another point is "Profile Summary". Every candidate is tempted to write about his/her "Excellent Communication and presentation skills". No offense is in mentioning that but if you are not found to be excellent at those skills during your interview...it is a misfit resume !

And that's why at Splendid Consultants, we take precise care of customising resumes and CVs . It is YOUR resume! What HR managers DO NOT want to know (Splendid Resume Writing)

"Your lifestyle is public but keep your personal life private"
Being a Resume Writer and trainer , I often come across interesting personalities and profiles. In my recruitment career, I have seen elaborated resumes decorated with lot of personal information which is hardly required for company recruiters/HR managers to know. Or further during the interviews, many unwanted issues are spoken about.
Secondly, we are living in the era of digital data thefts and one never knows why and how your contact information reaches to hundreds of customer care executives for unwanted credit cards and "free" gifts!
Stop putting your residence address in resume (or at least on the first page of your resume). People are in habit of writing their detailed residence address with so much care that if a recruiter wishes to actually physically visit that person's residence, he/she would find it easily !!! For example: Flat number ...Opposite...Landmark, Galli number, etc. At the time of interviews, most of the companies make you fill up the application form with such details for background verification. Hence, your resume does not need to have your postal address. Your mobile number and email address are the essential parts to be mentioned.
Marital Status: Not needed to mention till you are specifically asked about it
Extra Curricular Activities: Keep them limited and interesting enough to help you demonstrate your management skills such as being captain of sports team or winning awards at regional/national or international levels. Your long list of school level achievements may lose the interest of the reader.
Reason for leaving: During your interview and especially talking about the classic "reason for leaving the ex-organisation", please do not badmouth about your boss/colleagues/management or work environment.

Positive and concise profile creates a good impression :) Wish you a Splendid Image !

Purpose of Powerful Resume (Splendid Resume Writing)

Why do we write resume? Is the purpose clear in your mind?

The first purpose is obviously to present information about your academics and professional experience; but more importantly the second purpose is proving how you are suitable for the given job opening.
“Powerful Resume is a door opener for the dream job!”
When responding to a job opening, your resume precedes you. And quite literally, your resume speaks for you.

Know Yourself to write an authentic job objective
Copying from someone’s resume is quite popular but equally risky practice. The job objective which is the first part of the resume should be matching with your own career aspirations. Hence, be clear and straight about the same.

Listing the Academic Records & work experience
Always start with your latest academic qualification and latest organisational experience and achievements with all the details. Nowadays as most of the companies do a thorough background check about the selected candidates, your resume should reveal all the facts.  Also, keep the information about your academic projects short enough to interest the interviewer.

Extra-curricular Activities
Be specific about your sports and social achievements. Leading school/college team in sports or other competitions shows your leadership and team building skills.

Hobbies
Though you may have a range of different hobbies, write only 2 or maximum 3 hobbies in your resume. The reason is that the interviewer may ask you tricky questions and you may need to answer elaborately. E.g. about hobby –reading, you may be asked “which is your favorite book or author and why?”
